Overview

This air-to-air twin turbo intercooler kit eliminates the factory water circulation system, including the heat exchanger and water pumps. This kit has all provisions made for the factory sensors and comes with a custom front mount intercooler, crash bar, air intakes, charge piping, and all 16 silicone couplers & clamps. This set up is ideal for road race cars that face heat soak issues. The factory air-to-water system needs more time to recover from heat soak rather than air-to-air. The factory air to water system is most efficient when the water is able to reject the most heat to open air. This is coincidentally when the water is hottest and performance is the worst.

Performance and Advantages

Typical power output with this kit, 3in downpipes, a true dual 3in exhaust, stock turbos and a healthy motor can be well over 520ftlbs and 460whp on 93oct and over 550ftlbs and 540whp on E85 with about 18-19psi (dynocom SAE corrected).

One safety advantage most people haven't considered is the chance of a water cooled core bursting internally and filling the engine with coolant! Although this is uncommon, anything can happen in the world of racing.

After 10+ dyno runs with minimal time in between runs (see EcuTek data log screenshot), manifold air temps were still only 2*C above ambient temperatures at the end of the dyno pull.

While air-to-water has its place in the racing community, the typical Q50/Q60 will see power levels between 400 to 500whp on stock turbos and 500 to 700whp on upgraded turbos. Very few will be closing in on 1000whp so we are reserving that version of the kit for a case by case basis. Using an 800whp rated intercooler core caters to the vast majority of VR30 owners while minimizing transient boost lag.

Boost lag in RPM is non-existent since the stock turbo spool so well in the midrange. There is a slight amount of transient lag however. The best way we can describe this change is with this: The engine will perform with very fast boost response instead of having instant torque like a naturally aspirated V8. We personally found the cars to actually be more enjoyable. Top end power and shifting remains unchanged on track.

Cost

When comparing the cost of an upgraded heat exchanger, upgraded air to water coolers, an upgraded water circulation pump, and intakes, this conversion kit becomes a very attractive performance option that performs as good as it looks. Our kit will continue to be hand built in the USA using high quality materials and TIG welded to the highest quality we can.

Tuning

For tuners, the channel "charge air coolant temp" will now represent the air temp out of the cooler. We are actually seeing that air temp read within 1*C above ambient. This table and its respective torque limit table must be retuned to act as another IAT safety.

There is no longer a need to implement the "charge air safety" failsafe. This is solely to save the engine from an IAT spike in the event there is a massive air bubble in the oem water circulation system.

Tuning is the same strategy as any other VR30 vehicle however. The tuner will very likely enjoy the reduced time between pulls on the dyno. On a hot summer day, the typical tune requires breaks every 3-4 dyno pulls to let the water come down to a tune-able temperature.

Disclaimers

The washer fluid reservoir needs to be removed to make room for the charge piping on the driver side. The horns also need to be relocated but this is very simple. The installer needs to locate any other m6x1.0 holes and bolt the horn in any orientation that doesn't touch any other components.

(Not pictured: The sonar box has mounts on the production units)

Fits Infiniti Q50/Q60 with the VR30DDTT ONLY. This kit is not to be purchased for a 3.7L or 2.0T model.

Although this kit does not effect any emissions systems, the purchaser agrees to our standard tuning and service disclaimers understands that this conversion kit is to be strictly used for track/off-road vehicles.
